This amazing set of shoji
screens has been crafted in lime wood, then layered with ten coats
of black lacquer to create a very sumptuous, intensely polished finish
to the framework. When paired with white Warlon, the high-contrast
result is incredibly striking. Unfortunately, it is impossible to
capture the rich beauty of the lacquered finish in a photograph, but we
have been informed that everyone who has seen these screens 'in person'
has commented on the "magnificence," "beauty," and "stunning richness"
of the design. Our clients are "over the moon" with their shoji
screens, which are now installed in their home in Manchester.
In the next photo, on page
5d, it is easier to perceive some of
the effects of the black lacquer on the shoji screens, but no photo can
really do these artfully created screens justice.
